Privacy policy

What is collected, why, who else sees it, and how to make it stop.

Last updated August 2026

This policy explains how personal information is handled on this website. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything in it is unclear, ask.

1. Who is responsible

The publisher and data controller for this website is an individual:

2. What is collected

Information you give me

If you send email, I receive your email address and whatever you write. That is used to reply and, for corrections, to keep a record of why a page changed. Nothing else is done with it.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, the server that delivers these pages records technical request data such as IP address, browser and operating system, referring page and time of request. This is used for security and for keeping the site running.

Measurement

If, and only if, you switch on measurement cookies, an analytics service records aggregate information about which pages get read, roughly where visitors are (country or region level), and which device types are used. It is not used to identify individuals and I do not attempt to match it to a person.

Advertising

If, and only if, you switch on advertising cookies, advertising partners may set and read cookies or similar identifiers in order to select advertisements, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether they worked. Where personalised advertising is enabled, that selection may take into account previous browsing on this and other sites.

3. What is never collected

  • No accounts, no logins, no passwords.
  • No payment information. Nothing on this site is sold and no bookings are taken.
  • No special category data — nothing about health, beliefs, politics or anything similar.
  • Nothing knowingly collected from children under 13. This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, write and it will be deleted.

4. Why, and on what legal basis

PurposeDataBasis (EU / UK GDPR)
Delivering the pages and keeping them secureTechnical request dataLegitimate interests
Answering your emailEmail address, messageLegitimate interests
Measuring which pages are readAnalytics cookies and identifiersConsent
Showing and measuring advertisingAdvertising cookies and identifiersConsent

Consent is requested through the cookie banner shown on your first visit. You can withdraw it at any time using the manage cookies control, which is also in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything already done before you withdrew it.

5. Advertising, and Google specifically

Advertising on this site is served by Google. In connection with that:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve advertisements based on prior visits to this or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve advertisements to visitors based on their visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or at youronlinechoices.eu in Europe.
  • Google's own handling of data from partner sites is described in Google's privacy and terms.

This site implements Google's consent signalling, which means advertising and measurement storage are set to denied by default and are only switched to granted after you choose. Advertising in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland is subject to Google's EU user consent requirements, which this banner is designed to satisfy.

6. Who else sees your data

Personal data is not sold, and it is not shared except with the service providers needed to run the site: the hosting provider that serves these pages, the analytics provider if you consented to measurement, and the advertising provider if you consented to advertising. Each acts under its own terms and privacy policy.

These providers may process data in the United States and elsewhere. Where data originates in the EEA or UK, transfers rely on the mechanisms those providers put in place, typically standard contractual clauses or an approved certification framework.

7. How long things are kept

  • Email correspondence: kept while it is useful for corrections and the record, then deleted.
  • Server logs: short-term, as configured by the hosting provider.
  • Cookies: see the cookie policy for the lifetime of each one.
  • Your cookie choice: stored for up to six months, then you will be asked again.

8. Your rights

If you are in the EU, the EEA or the UK

You have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

If you are in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law

You have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. This site does not sell personal information for money. Turning advertising cookies off in the banner is the opt-out mechanism for sharing for targeted advertising; you may also send a request by email. Exercising these rights will never result in a worse experience of the site.

How to exercise any of this

Write to hello@readbetweentheframes.com. There is no charge, and requests are answered within the period the applicable law requires — in practice, as quickly as one person reasonably can.

9. Do Not Track and global signals

Browsers send Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals inconsistently. Where a browser sends a recognised opt-out preference signal, this site treats it as a request to keep advertising and measurement storage denied.

Pages here link to official sources such as the studio, the museum and the park, and to reference material. Those sites have their own policies and this one does not apply to them.

11. Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date below changes and the cookie banner is shown again where consent is affected. Older versions are available on request.
